Confirmed by his agent, Christian Atsu discovered deceased in debris of catastrophic earthquake in Turkey.

Christian Atsu, a former winger for Chelsea and Newcastle, was found after a 12-day search among the rubble of the southern Turkey earthquake, according to his agency.

Atsu, 31, was residing in a building when it was destroyed on February 6 during the catastrophe in Hatay.

Atsu’s agent, Murat Uzunmehmet, reported that more debris was still being removed when the footballer’s lifeless body was found on Saturday morning, February 18.

Atsu was a player for Hatayspor, and shortly before the earthquake, he decided against going to see relatives in order to stay and play a crucial match against Kasimpasa.

The calamity has already claimed over 45,000 lives across Turkey and Syria, with many still unaccounted for as the death toll in the area keeps rising.
