AS OF YESTERDAY MARCH 16 2020 the number of cases outside China has surpassed that in China. Spain and USA reported >1000 cases in 24 hours. One infectious disease doctor in Atlanta where one hospital diagnosed 9 cases on one day, has described it as FAST AND FURIOUS on his hospital. American doctors are infected and are dying. A few days ago the Head of the Italian Medical Association passed away due to this illness. I am in the frontlines of care. I do not know if my next patient is an infected asymptomatic patient.
When the national toll reaches a 1000 a day in a nation, it means the epidemic is a raging fire, fast and FURIOUS like the wildfires of Chicago or more recently Australia. It means there are thousands more undetected patients.
I am calling for world leaders to act in concert to end the epidemic by collaborating on a unified action plan NOW NOT next month. I applaud the countries who have imposed travel bans. This should have been done six weeks ago to avoid today’s scenarios. Kudoes. There is still time for next step.
