Accra, Ghana//-The Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, Selorm Adadevoh has urged today’s leaders not just to lead but to prepare the world for the next generation.
According to him, “Our purpose as leaders is not just to lead but to prepare this place for the next generation”, so the current leaders should take good care of the environment in which they operate.
Sharing his experience of Hurricane Matthew which caused catastrophic damage and a humanitarian crisis in Haiti, as well as widespread devastation in the southeastern United States in 2010, at a virtual Rotary Intercity meeting in Accra, Mr Adadevoh said the experience was not the best.
Mr Adadevoh, who was the Chief Executive Officer of Digicel at the time that the hurricane struck, explained how the company handled the destruction of its net work infrastructure, saying the company prioritized saving staff and customers to any other needs.
“Southwest of Haiti was destroyed; we did not lose any staff but lost 90% of our sites which made it impossible for telecommunications to take place”.
Mr Adadevoh however described the incident as his “journey through the eyes of hurricane”.
Speaking on the theme-‘Bold Leadership: Leading Through The Eyes of a Hurricane’, he however stated that it was in Haiti where his leadership was expanded threefold, stressing that “a journey that started with naivety and ended in bold leadership”.
He was quick to tell virtually audiences who were members of the Rotary Club of Ghana that; “Leadership in such a situation is much about the exit and future as it is the now”.
Mr Adadevoh did not hesitate but to proffer eight key lessons from his eyes of the hurricane experience which were received with thunderous applause.
