NCA to Crack Down on Theft of SIM Card Information by Network Operators and Agents – Ursula Owusu Reveals.

The National Communications Authority (NCA) will soon roll out punishment to all network operators and agents who engage in pre-registration and duplication of SIM cards.

The Minister of Commuications, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, noted on Peace FM’s morning show “Kokrokoo” Friday that it’s come to her notice that some agents keep people’s SIM cards particulars to engage in deceitful activities.

She implored the victims to report the agents or network operator to the National Commuications Authority to take the necessary action against the perpetrators.

Hon. Owusu-Ekuful stated emphatically it is unlawful for any agent to pre-register or duplicate SIM cards.

“This was done by some of the agents. We have told NCA to sanction those network operators and the agents because what they did is against our rules and it is illegal. They know the law frowns on pre-registered SIM cards but because we haven’t done nothing to them, they think they can get away with it. It is time for us to show them that it is wrong. It is illegal and sanctions attached to it, so I have instructed NCA to enforce those provisions of our laws,” she told Kwami Sefa Kayi in an interview.
