Teacher becomes a national hero for protecting school children against COVID-19

1 Mins read

A teacher in the Kassena Nankana Municipality in the Upper East Region, who goes by the name, Dezmond has become a social media sensation and national celebrity after pictures of him in his classroom went viral.

Dezmond teaches at the Naaga Primary school; he did what will never cross the minds of many teachers in Ghana in the face of COVID-19.

On Thursday, January 21, 2021, while many teachers and headteachers in the Upper East Region and the country had thrown their hands into the air; complaining and ‘crying’ over the government’s inability to provide their school children with PPEs on time, Dezmond, from his personal resources bought and distributed 500 face shields and nose masks and hand sanitizers to his school.

This gesture may not be so big, but then it paints a picture of how people with great minds can change their communities and situation for the good. It is the opposite of minds that wait for the government to do everything, even when their inactions are threatening to kill them.

On his Facebook page, Dezmond wrote on Thursday, “TODAY, I donated 500 FACE SHIELDS, Nose Mask, and Hand sanitizers to the school I TEACH. Not much but it’s my own little way to help my school. For in their safety, will I be safe too.”

Dezmond is a trained teacher from the Tamale College of Education, where he studied Science and Mathematics. He is also a Freelancer at Fiverr and Lead Front End Developer at Dezcodes. He is a Native of Navrongo and lives in Navrongo. He travels from Navrongo to Naaga Primary School, which is over 4 kilometers to teach on daily basis.

A1radioonline.com will follow Dezmond and bring to lights so other good things he may have done for the school children and community.
